Daytime soaps are dying a slow and painful death. It was bound to happen. Cable and DVDs (and VHS before it) took a big chunk out of the audience, then DVRs took it a further step. Many of them are just ... gone! Guiding Light disappeared this year, Passions last year (okay, Passions was a surreal take on the traditional soap, but still, it's gone), and Another World may be seen in another world but not this one, it was canceled, too. One can surmise that the money's just not there to keep 'em going ... so, what's the deal with ABC meeting James Franco's usual and customary pay rate (if they indeed are doing so) for a splashy guest shot on General Hospital as a conceptual artist ...
